Country music superstar Trace Adkins kicked off the inaugural VETS ROCK concert at the Mohegan Sun Arena this past Veteran's Day. This was a special day all around. The day was kicked off in the Convrntion Center with Hiring Our Hero's Workshop, professional suit fittings, and a Career Fair with 100 employers from throughout Connecticut for Veteran's to attend.
As darkness fell on the day, participants and spectators streamed into the arena. Tony Orlando, the Master of Ceremonies, kicked off the night. During Tie A Yellow Ribbon, many Veteran's from the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine's were asked to stand to show what war conflict they served for the United States of America. Every person that stood, stood proud.
Then, Dan Orlando, Madison Rising, and the Dropkick Murphys got the concert goer's warmed up. You could tell that a lot of people were surprised that the Dropkick Murphys did an acoustic set, which was a fantastic addition to the night.
Mr. Adkins took the stage with his signature strut and baritone voice and sang all the fan favorites like "you're Gonna Miss This", "Songs About Me", and "There's A Girl In Texas". Everyone in the audience was gravitating towards him as he owned the stage. His band was amazing. It is great to watch an artist sing so effortlessly, and enjoy entertaining a crowd. It is easy to understand why he is a fan favorite!
Ticket sales from this benefit concert go to support "Til Duty Is Done", which is a non-profit organization that helps reducing Veteran homelessness, unemployment, and helps with reintegration. For more information or to make a donation, please visit www.tdid.org
