Iconic superstar Cher made a stop at MGM Springfield and wowed her audience at the sold out show! Fans lined up early and waited hours see her performance in spectacular outfits, arial acrobatics, and choreographed dance routines. This legend never slows down and keeps the crowd on their feet the entire show.
Cher made a grand entrance being lowered to center stage on a large platform singing “Woman’s World”. The seventeen song setlist touched on various decades of her very extensive song library.
About mid-way through, Sonny Bono was projected on a large screen to sing with Cher “The Beat Goes On”, and “I Got You Babe”. There were even scenes from their variety show shown during this portion of her set. I remember watching this show growing up and they always looked like they were having fun. It brought back many memories.
Cher transitioned into a melody of ABBA songs due to the recent release of “Mamma Mia”. Everyone was dancing and singing along at the tops of their lungs to “Waterloo”, “SOS”, and “Fernando” . She was dazzling in her seventies outfit.
It is hard for me to fathom that Cher is going to be 73 this month! Not many artists can carry on a career over several generations and look and sound as great as she does! When she was standing there talking about the song “If I Could Turn Back Time” wearing the same outfit she wore in 1989, asking the crowd “What is your 73 year-old grandmother doing” and strutted off, singing her song. When you think about it, how many people can wear that outfit and strut around in high-heeled boots at that age? I cannot, even at my age. Angus Clark shredded his guitar solo’s during this song while filling in for Joel Hoekstra.
She ended her set with “Believe” and it is hard to believe that Cher will be retiring soon. While I understand she wants time to enjoy herself and relax, I will be very sad that I will not be able to see her live anymore.
Thank you Cher, for sacrificing your time and life to entertain us thought out the years. It is greatly appreciated and you will be missed when you stop touring!
